This probably is what is in the minds of the new recruit. Fresh out of the previous job or just out of college, s/he is razor keen to put the best foot forward, even if they don’t know which direction to put it in. They have energy, a great sense of optimism and have a glucose shot all the time. They are brimming with ideas and like the spring season. They just want to prove themselves and can be willing to do just about anything.

Now these chappies are full of potential – which is why they were chosen, right? They obviously have no given performance. They will go through their series of Knowledge / tech training, know more about the company and people and start working with them, start figuring out their work and finally confront the issues and challenges of working and overcome them
Some from Low Performance and Low Potential (Quitter) or other seekers or even a Rock Star may find themselves gravitating towards the Hi Jumper Box.
What should you do if you are a Hi-Jumper?
The first thing is to remember that Potential without Performance is a short lived life. As per my Guru, John Ellis, its always ‘Results (which) are the ONLY Judge’ So its very important that we start using our learning to start delivering. If you are a new joinee, repose the faith of your boss who selected you from amongst many by putting the ‘bacon on the table’. If you are an existing team member – pull yourself up. Start focusing on getting back on the results scorecard fast.
In this Stage the Two things which will help you are YOU and YOURSELF Alone. Know Yourself. Manage Yourself.
Bring Discipline into your work. Do the daily tasks assigned to your without fail and keep practicing. The Support from the Management / Boss will only be towards your Learning and Training. They can only show you to do, once or twice. The third time onwards they will simply keep observing how you do and what do you reach out to them to help you for?
Wom Ann has been recently recruited as an Asst Manager for the Customer Service Department from college. She was the brightest from her batch and her understanding and Knowledge was superior. She knows better than any other from a text book perspective. She has no experience. What should she do to ensure she exploits her potential best and ends up on the results board quick?
Firstly, She must up her knowledge on what is expected of her and the company as well as what are the key for success in the department. She should focus on each task and come up with learning everyday. Her numbers may not necessarily show but then her work should. Till she has been able to convert the first of the customers into becoming a happy one.
To summarise, keep learning and doing. Make sure you dont tire of repeating things till the practice and repetition makes you perfect. Keep building your confidence daily by pushing yourself to becoming the best qualified and most skilled. You are used to doing this in any case at college too – you have pushed yourself hard to becoming the most knowledgeable. Now time to put this into practices. Look up old customer cases where they were dissatisfied and go through simulations in gourmand about what alternatives you could have done. If there are no such cases, conjure up hypothetical situations and run them past your supervisor / trainer or best in class colleagues and see how they would have responded. If your matches their approach – you are likely to succeed too
